Push-technology

PCMAG.com defines Push-Technology as data distribution where selected data is automatically delivered to the user’s computer or mobile device in real time or at prescribed intervals.
This can include email messages, calendar updates, text messages (instant messaging), information from social networking websites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Users do not have to initiate collecting the information as information finds the user.
This can involve subscribing to websites such as YouTube where you receive regular updates. For example by liking a Facebook post or page, you will automatically receive email updates when someone adds information to the Facebook post or page. Another example includes bookmarking a website or adding it as a favourite, as you will automatically get the updated information from them at the latest content.
I can use Push-Technology with my students by getting them to subscribe to my Facebook, Twitter account or my blog. For example I can add videos (vodcasts), audio files and any other online materials/resources to my blog or Facebook page; this will allow students to have real time instant remote access 24 hours a day. This will help to make learning more personalised as students will receive automatic updates rather than requesting information.
For example if students subscribe to my YouTube page they can have instant access to any videos I have in my playlist i.e. Interview techniques. I can also create my own vodcasts of subject specific topics, and important updates. This will help students to stay up-to-date instantly.

My Audioboo

This is a Audioboo recording of me talking about one of the units I teach as part of a WorkSkills programme. I think Audioboo is a great way to add recordings on my blog or set up a subject board on key topics that I teach. Students can refer to this if they miss any lessons or just want a refresher.

YouTube Vodcast of me

I feel the Vodcast is a useful tool as it can be used to keep my students informed of certain subject areas. I currently undertake mock interviews with my students that are all recorded manually on paper. I can use a Vodcast in the future to record the mock interviews and post examples onto my blog or Facebook account (with my students permission). Students can refer to this when preparing for an interview. This can also be used as a refresher activity when going over the mock interview with each student, where I can provide feedback using another vodcast if suitable.

Quizlet.com - Interview Questions Quiz & Test

Quizlet.com - Interview Questions (Multiple-choice test)

http://quizlet.com/23837672/test/

I used Quizlet.com to create a activity on common interview questions and tips. The above activity can be used both in and out of class. Students can be given the link to the quiz where they can complete the 20 multiple choice questions either in their own time or in timed conditions. This activity can also be printed and given to students as a paper-based test to complete. This can be used as a assessment tool to assess each students understanding of the subject matter.

Quizlet.com - Interview Questions (Quiz's)

I embedded the following Quizlet.com quiz's into my blog. Students can access the blog and have the option to select a activity that they want to complete or choose a activity that their teacher has set up. They can complete the quiz as a refresher activity or refer to it to help them prepare for their next interview. The quiz's can be completed independently or as a group if you have access to a interactive whiteboard in the classroom.

I feel my students may struggle to complete this on their own if they were given full ownership to do so, as they are not confident with technology and may struggle with accessing and using it. Quizlet.com would suit my students better if we completed the quiz's as a group activity with clear instructions and guidance from their teacher. I also think the test options in Quizlet would be something I would definitely use with my students in the future as a assessment activity.
